About Me
Hi! I am Ali Heller, a Ph.D. Candidate in socio-cultural anthropology at Washington University in Saint Louis. This year I will be keeping this blog to document the adventures, misadventures, frustrations, and successes of my dissertation research in Niger, West Africa. I don’t intend for this blog to be academic, although I will sometimes talk about the challenges and insights I’ve gained from my research. Rather, I envision this blog being a place where I can take fieldnotes of sorts — reflections on a local way of life, cultural system, and language much different from my own.
This research has been generously funded by the Fulbright-Hays, the National Science Foundation, the Wenner Gren Foundation, and the Worldwide Fistula Fund. However, all of the opinons expressed here are mine alone and do not reflect the views of any of these organizations.
